Designer’s Guide to Picking Outdoor Furniture

With summer being here, most of us are enjoying the weather by gardening, barbecuing, or updating our entryway! It is important to most people to impress their family and friends when they hold a get together. Make your front porch a space that you and your loved ones can enjoy throughout the seasons with some of my favorite styling tips!

Depending on the color of your siding, brick, or stone, pick something that will stand out against it! I chose to go with neutral tones and pops of black to be interchangeable through the seasons. Neutral tones are a great way to keep it simple, yet lively. It draws the viewer's attention to the details added throughout the space. I decided to focus on details like vibrant, lively plants and stylish, cozy furniture. The seating to the right of the porch grabs people's interest because of its clean lines and texture.

I wanted my guests to feel welcome by adding two plants on either side of the doorway. In the photo above, I used ferns and modern planters to grab friends and families' attention to the entryway. Symmetrical seating and planters are pleasing to the eye. By using similar or the same plant on both sides of the front door, it helps creates symmetrical balance. But don’t be afraid to play around and use similar, yet different decor for both sides! It should still be functional for the use of your needs.

Make a statement to by layering two rugs on the entryway for your guest as they walk to the front door. Find a simple statement rug like the welcome rug above and layer it with your favorite patterned rug beneath! Layering 2 rugs will help highlight the space and is also a fun opportunity to switch it up around the Holidays and Seasons and play with texture, colors, and patterns.

Bring the rugs outside! Outdoor rugs and pillows can make your space feel cozy and warm. Not only can it be the perfect place to unwind with a cup of coffee in the morning or cocktail in the evening, but also a place to enjoy watching the children play! (Or in my case, both! haha)
