Have you heard of the One Room Challenge? For those of you who don't know about the One Room Challenge, it is a room transformation challenge sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens. It is a perfect way to showcase your creativity and style. (click here to see other entries!) It also is a great time to try new ideas and experiment with design techniques. I began my 8-week, One Room Challenge on May 13th to transform our guest bedroom!

The photo below, to the left, is how my guest bedroom looked in the beginning. Before designing the room, I went ahead, painted the trim and walls, hung a new modern light fixture, and removed the popcorn ceiling, visit my Instagram OCR highlights to see! I was able to envision these details and create a coherent design concept by building a mood board. I recommend making a mood board to have a better understanding of what you want the final product to be. To organize my thoughts and visualize the final product, I like to turn my mood board into a virtual design. A virtual design can help develop the aesthetic within the space, which makes it easier to find the right furniture and decor for space without making any final purchases.

Want an easy way to save space? Headboards can often take up space, which can cause difficulties when having limited room. By using StikWood, I was able to save space and make an accent wall behind the bed easily. I chose to use the StikWood, color Minimalist Fir, on 3/4 going up, the wall, topping it with a picture ledge above to display artwork and photos, creating a personalized focal point in the room that you can change over time.

I decided to keep everything neutral with a pop of terra-cotta for a more soothing, cozy space. By painting the walls white and using neutral tones, I can easily change details within the room to make it match my style as it may change over time. The white walls open the space up, making it feel larger and brighter. Worried white walls will wash out a room? Adding hints of greenery within a room can help make it look and feel fresh while adding a pop of color. To create a welcoming and cozy space for guests to use, I layered bedding!

What do you guys think?
